What is Repetitive Strain Injury ?
The condition is self-explanatory, small repetitive. Movements at work may lead to strain on muscles, tendons, tendon sheath, ligaments, nerves and joints. These injuries are classified as RSI (repetitive Strain Injury). These are again Overuse Injury, which are occupational in origin, so also known as Occupational Overuse Syndrome.

The repeated movement causes inflammation and damage to the soft tissues. In particular, it has its attribute to upper limb and forearm pains.
RSI includes mainly localised injuries such as Trigger Finger, Golfer’s Elbow, Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel syndrome, but, may also include some diffuse pain syndromes like Cervico-Brachial Pain Syndrome or Chronic Pain Syndrome
Signs of Repetitive Strain Injury
Early signs of RSI (repetitive Strain Injury) may be soreness, tingling or discomfort in the neck, arms, wrists or fingers. These symptoms may appear during or after a sustained repetitive movement of the extremity.
Symptoms may disappear after stopping the provocating movement, but, in severe case it may last from couple of hours to few days. In chronic condition it had require medical attention and rest from all provocating movements.
Burning, Aching, Numbness or Shooting Pain.
Fatigue or Lack of Strength.
In Chronic condition cold hands, mainly the fingertips.
Difficulty in performing simple tasks like opening doors, chopping vegetables, turning on a tap
Repeated movements at a joint for too long,
Working with inadequate equipment,
Working too quick, or for long hours without adequate breaks
Working in malalignment position of joints
Acute RSI (repetitive Strain Injury) can be easily diagnosed and are treated successfully with good result within fewer sittings of physiotherapy.
Chronic cases of RSI (repetitive Strain Injury) are multifactorial with some RSI cases eventually develop a chronic pain syndrome, which require more attention and prolong physiotherapy.
